I was pretty fortunate not to have been bullied too badly as a teen but I do remember a kid at school that once asked me if I was a fairy. I remember laughing and thinking to myself, “yes I am, on so many levels!”
Naturally, I didn’t have to twist my own arm too hard to convince myself to create a bit of drag for my new persona, Barrett the Fantasy Fairy, or BTFF for short. Gays, fruit flies, and allies I went digging through my closet and trunks in search of the perfect costume for BTFF.
The idea behind this series was to marry fantasy, my favorite genre in all forms of media, and my book recommendations section of my YT Channel. The result was BTFF which will feature my reviews and recommendations for urban fantasy films, tv/streaming series, and YA novels/graphic novels. As a writer I write for YA readers and I try to read often in my genre, to stay current on what readers are responding to.
These recommendations and reviews are subjective. Each is completely based on my personal tastes and preferences and should discourage anyone from checking them out for yourselves. I will not give too many spoilers, especially on books that I discuss. I want to support authors and encourage readers to decide for themselves which is why those videos in this series will be recommendations instead of reviews.
The list of books that will be featured on the series through June 2021 are listed below, along with the dates the videos on those topics will be airing. If you want to read along in the BTFF Book Club, grab the title we are reading in advance of the video airing on it, read up, and join the discussion on those videos. Book recommendations will be premiered and feature both live chat and comments. I look forward to discussing the books with you on YT, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
